Dr. Ellis Farstvedt, right, CSR Equine’s resident, board certified surgeon, is assisted by Dr. Kelly Hall of Headwaters Veterinary Hospital, the referring veterinarian, while they remove a bladder stone in this state-of-the art digitally equipped surgical suite at CSR Equine. The operating room features advanced anesthesia delivery and monitoring technology. The anesthesia machine provides anesthetic gas and pure oxygen. In addition, it can ventilate the patient for necessary respiratory needs. The EKG and direct arterial pressure digital monitor measures concentrations of oxygen saturation in the blood as well as carbon dioxide and anesthetic gas in the airway. This information is important to the patient and helps the surgical team to improve the quality of surgery while helping to prevent muscle and nerve problems after the operation. The veterinarians teamed up recently to save this horse. Dr. Hall examined the horse, and provided the initial diagnosis. In the photo on the right, Dr. John Smart, another CSR veterinarian, monitors the high tech equipment as part of the surgical room team. CSR, located near Four Corners, serves as a referring equine medical facility for veterinarians in the region as well as providing equine medical service to clients.
