CSR Equine Sports Medicine Center Internship Opportunity
At CSR, there are two practices that operate year-round. We are affiliated with Copper Spring Ranch, a growing western performance horse breeding and training facility.
The Sports Medicine Center is an equine exclusive practice in beautiful Bozeman, MT. The clinic serves as a full service referral hospital and general practice.
The Sports Medicine Team is a traveling group that brings a 48 foot mobile clinic to shows and events around the west. We are based out of Bozeman in the summer and Phoenix in the winter.
An intern with CSR Equine has a unique opportunity to service equine athletes in a clinic setting, on a working ranch, and as part of the traveling team at events.
List of Internship Duties in Practice:
The intern is responsbile for the case management of emergency calls until rounds the following morning. Surgical/anesthesia assistance during all surgeries. Out-calls and routine exams performed in the clinic. Assistance with month end business for practice, including production, inventory control, and management issues. As the year progresses, the intern will have the opportunity to receive his/her own appointments. Gudiance and assistance will always be available.
Estimated Breakdown of Daily or Weekly Load:
Average summer days at clinic commonly require 14-16hr and the average winter days require 8-10hrs. The intern doctor is expected to be involved at all times, including but not limited to daily treatments, clinical case appointments, out-calls, and emergency work. Appointments typically start at 8:30am Monday-Friday with 24/7 emergency call. Trailer duties include case work-ups and treatment, travel to various places for shows.
Emergency Duty Requirements:
Intern will be on-call during the week and will share weekend call with other doctors. There is a rotating intern and doctor emergency call schedule for weekends. When the intern is on ER duty, there will always be a primary clinician available to assist at any time.
Employee Benefits:
Salary: $25,000/yr, 50% of the emergency fee, Housing, use of Clinic vehicle for out calls, Vacation: after a 6 mo period, 5days of paid vacation is available. AMVA PLIT, Health Insurance, CE Allowance: $500, lunch is provided daily at Ranch Bunkhouse.
Term of Employment: One year: June 1 – June 1
Prerequisites of Application and Internship:
Graduate from an North American AVMA accreditated Veterinary School. DVM. Montana State Veterinary License. Completion of an externship at our practice. Official transcript, letter of intent, 3 letters of reference and AAEP Internship Application.

Internship Philosophy:
To provide a learning environment for becoming a competant veterinarian both in clinical work and the business side. The intern will be treated as a veterinarian and will be expected to jump in whenever and where ever needed. They should be able to leave this internship with the knowledge and competency to perform diagnostics and treatment procedures; as well as improve on their surgery, anesthesia, medicine, dentistry, lameness and reproductive skills.
Facilities:
Clinic hospital and out buildings averages 10,000 square feet. The hospital centers around an exceptionally designed and equipped surgical suite with a separate induction/recovery stall. We have an in-house laboratory and climate controlled stalls with continual air ventilation system. All imaging, lab results, and medical records are on a digital system. Our equipment is continually upgraded to have the most recent and top-of-the-line technology available.
We host the most technologically advanced equipment for an equine hospital in the northwest. High Definition surgical equipment, AOASIF Bone Plating system, CO2 & Diode Laser, 1m &3m HD Video endoscopes, Eklin/Asteris Radiograph equip., Mylab Ultrasounds, Abaxis Lab equip, Versatron Shockwave, IRAP/PRP, Game Ready Equine, as well as a MREquine (MRI) trailer stop.
A brand new Mare Care/Reproduction barn (5,000 sq ft) was just completed in Oct. 2009. There are 30 stalls with runs and houses stocks, work area and repro lab. Our stallion barn is a full service facility with breeding dummy, lab, semen storage and shipping capablities and a standing recipient herd. We currently stand 3 stallions year-round at our clinic.
We also have a fully furnished house on site that serves as the business office, Intern & Extern housing, as well as host clients that have traveled long distances.
The Sports Medicine Trailer is a well-ventilated, climate-controlled area available for working on the equine athlete in privacy and comfort for both the horse and client. This mobile sports medicine unit is equipped with essentially everything you would find in a regular veterinary clinic. We are a completely digital hospital and work with referring and home veterinarians around the country.

Just down the road is Yellowstone National Park, home to many species of wildlife surrounded by some of the most gorgeous scenery created by nature.
